About NilObs
Content last reviewed 24 October 2026.
Who makes it
NilObs is built and run by Sea N Shore IT Solutions LLP, a limited liability partnership registered in India. It's made by a small software team, and shaped by the questions crews say they faced in real inspections.
Where the content comes from
- Inspection reports and observation lists from 2025 and 2026: SIRE 2.0, CDI, port state control and pre-vetting inspections. Ship, crew, inspector and company names are removed and the wording is paraphrased.
- Crew debriefs: what inspectors asked, as officers described it after their inspections, paraphrased with names removed.
- Public guidance and reports, such as accident investigation reports and flag-state guidance. The Live feed links to the original every time.
- Model answers, flashcards and "what they want to see" lists were written by the NilObs team from the sources above.
NilObs doesn't publish OCIMF's question wording, and it's not OCIMF guidance. Section numbers are given so you can find the official question yourself.
How it's checked
We review the prepared content when we add to it, and the date at the top of this page is the last review. No named master mariner or SIRE inspector has reviewed it yet, and we won't claim one has until it's true. If you're a master, chief engineer, superintendent or inspector and would like to review content for your area, please email us.
AI answers (Ask NilObs, Photo check, the AI inspector, the Live feed's takeaways) come from Anthropic's Claude models. They can be incomplete or wrong. They're there to help you practise and think, not to replace your Safety Management System, your company's procedures or the official documents.

Certificates
A NilObs certificate of completion records self-study in the app: practice in every topic for your role, seven daily drills and an AI inspector session scored 6/10 or more. It isn't an official, STCW or flag-state certificate. Anyone can check one at nilobs.com/c/ followed by its number.
